At Wanna Get Out Bail Bonds in Oahu, we have heard of a number of strange crimes over the years. We’ve been in this business for quite some time and that pretty much means that we’ve seen it all. As it turns out, however, some of the crimes we have heard about aren’t as crazy as we once thought.
That’s why in today’s blog we’d like to share a few of the strangest and most interesting crimes we came across in our research on the subject. Wondering what will make the list? Keep reading to find out!
Breaking into a Vehicle
Trying to break into a vehicle doesn’t sound like a particularly odd crime, and it’s not. Except in the case of a Florida man who tried to break into a vehicle belonging to the Sheriff’s Office. Apparently the night before his big mistake, the man had attempted to break into a number of different cars in a particular neighborhood.
He was unsuccessful, so he returned the next night. What he didn’t know is that he had been caught on video trying attempting the break in’s the night before. The police set up an unmarked car and the burglar returned. WPTV notes that he approached a car and “at the time, the vehicle was occupied by the Strategic Targeted Area Response team, who promptly arrested him.”
Manhole Cover Theft
Right off the bat, this one sounds like a real doozie. An article in The New York Times goes into specifics of a story of a man dressed in a bright vest who was “using an automotive jack to lift a cast-iron manhole cover out of the street by himself.” Apparently it is normal for a handful of manhole covers to go missing over the course of a year, but one company says that “more than 30 of its manhole covers — some weighing as much as 300 pounds and all bearing the utility’s distinctive markings — [had] disappeared since March.”
As it turns out, there is a black market for manhole covers who likely sell them to scrap dealers in exchange for cash. It sounds strange, but it’s the truth.
